  VAT4956 - 530 BC destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar

  in my studies, i have concluded that year 530 bc was when the destruction of jerusalem occurred and the temple destroyed.

  i had determined this prior to investigation of vat4956.

  i had already found that the jubilees, sabbaticals, courses of the priests, and chronology attested to this.

  This topic has been discussed here a lot. The great thing about the astronomical observations on the tablet is that they dont have to be perfect to be accurate.

  Conjuctions of planets in approximate relative positions to each other and to constellations are enough to establish a year. Simliar conjuctions may be hundreds or thousands of years apart. Anyone, or organisation like the wt, that emphasises eclipses, in relation to this topic, is purposely ignoring the superior evidence of planetary conjunctions.

  Ive read apologists arguing over the position of a planet to a degree or 2 and missing the entire point. The observer is describing celestial positions by holding out his arm and counting finger-breadths, its never going to be 100% accurate- but it doesnt need to be.

  In my astronomy program however, it doesn't have a year zero, so I researched year 511 BC. And seen enough to know that it was a match to the Tablet VAT4956.

  I would be really interested to know exactly what you believe matched VAT4956 in 511 BC. Because the planets definitely would not have matched.

  the noachian flood actually happened a little less than 4,500 years ago after which eight adults stepped off the ark to repopulate the planet.. that means that approximately 60 million lives had been snuffed out, a holocaust by anyone's estimation.

  as if that isn't horrific enough just think about the babies, toddlers and young children god killed.. he drowned all of them, every single one.

  Our culture is impotant to us. The music, food, dress, languages, holidays and myths and just some of the ways we celebrate our identity as a people.
  It isn't slavery to celebrate your culture.

  I understand there are a lot of jews that dont necessarily believe in god and yet are still proudly jewish and may follow some customs or none at all. However, around 90% of jews are circumcised. Why is that? Is that not a direct result of a commandment from god that is expected to be followed by every jewish family? I would argue that it is a religious ritual that has enslaved generations.

  From what I understand, the passover and festival of tabernacles may have been observed before the torah as harvest festivals. Harvest festivals were universally celebrated among early humanity and are not unique to the jewish culture.

  What I am referring to by 'enslaved' is any ritual with a religious origin that obligates a person to do a certain thing at a certain time. If the torah is 'mainly illustrative', then why bother with any of it? If its culture and tradition that dictates these observances, where did that tradition start? Most traditions observed by modern jews seem to have religious beginnings and are therefore commands, not lifestyle choices.

  What Im trying to say is that if god doesnt exist to many jews, or may exist, why follow any jewish rituals if most of them originate with the torah and are religious commands given by god - who many jews dont believe is real?

  Kaleb, I don't profess to be an expert on anything, let alone Judaism. However, I'm usually left a little confused after reading how some Jewish people explain their faith.

  For example, after reading your last post I dont know whether you believe there is a god or whether you believe the bible- you said that Jews don't take it literally. What does that mean exactly? If they don't take it literally, or you 'dont obey or believe blindly', why are so many jews enslaved to countless biblical obligations like the sabbath?

  I agree, of course we have a culpability, a moral obligation to try to improve the world. Looking to the OT for guidance is not the answer.

  Humans have completely destroyed the earth by following this command:

  Gen 1:28- God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

  In 2024, it is estimated that 96% of land mammals consist only of humans, our pets and domesticated animals, like pigs, horses, cattle, sheep. Only 4% of the remaining mammals are 'wild'. Something like 70% of all birds are chickens.

  Of the available land on earth, 40% is under cultivation, meaning, instead of biodiversity, massive land areas contain just a single sterile crop. That crop is produced by ensuring that nothing else can grow where it is growing by using herbicides and pesticides. Land used for farming automatically displaces animals that once lived there. Pollution caused by farming practises is well documented.

  The Date for the Memorial is WRONG this year!

  an interesting video was on youtube with a person claiming that the memorial date for 2024 was wrong.

  so i consulted three different jewish calendars online and sure enough, he appears to be right.

  i went back to 2014 and forward to 2027. they have the future dates listed.

  A few online sources say Passover is calculated 14 days from the new moon closest to the equinox, not after it. Some others say it's the first full moon after the equinox- which is almost the same thing.

  The closest new moon to the march equinox is March 10. So 14 days from then is March 24.

  Threats like the one in Leviticus, tap into the fears of members of early civilisations. Famine, attacks by wild animals, natural disasters, disease etc, were real fears, just like they are today, except we understand the cause wasn't angry, displeased spirits.

  A society that believed they lived and died at the whim of god(s) bred radical, superstitious behaviour with barbarous punishments, which we have inherited. Those behaviours are hard to shake off.

  Something like disfellowshipping is directly related to these early beliefs.

  I understand that the passover falls 14 days from the first new moon after the spring equinox.

  March 20, 2024: spring equinox

  April 8, 2024: First new moon after Spring Equinox

  22 April: Passover (+ 14 days from April 8).

  Im not an expert so dont take my word for it.

  Regarding re-instating disfellowshipped people,there has been a leak of a 2024 watchtower that discusses the new light from the annual meeting regarding who will be forgiven.

  That talk , was it by Splane??- is all about second guessing God's thought process concerning events such as the destruction of Sodom and if anyone will be resurrected, even though god explicitly stated there was no one worth saving, not even, presumably, babies.

  This talk, and also the talk about salvation being possible right up until the end, after the great tribulation has started,seems to set the scene for the possibility to change policies around disfellowshipped ones, and disfellowshipping in general.

  As others have pointed out, if there is a mass reinstatement event, I doubt apostates will be invited to the party.
